Here’s another lost gem recovered from the same 1986 KiMo Theatre concert that yielded Mr. Harrison’s Beard: IDIOT WALK captures a unique duo performance by Alan Lewine on string bass and Brad Payne on bass trombone — the only known recording of this piece. It’s a funky jazz-rock fusion concept dedicated to its composer, Danny Fincham. Built on tritones and half-step progressions, the players give virtuoso interpretations of IDIOT WALK, blending composed written music seamlessly blending into spontaneous improvisation. We think you will find this funky groove piece both danceable and harmonically daring 🦉

Alan’s boyhood friend, guitarist Danny Fincham, composed this piece and Alan adapted it for this duo setting. Primarily a rock lead guitarist on a Stratocaster, in the early 70s Danny was listening to the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Jeff Beck, miles Davis and other exploratory ensembles and experimenting with some “fusion grooves” and this was one. Alan has occasionally performed IDIOT WALK since the late 1970s, usually as a bass solo feature, but this live performance yielded the only known recording we have. Danny is ill these days and proceeds from this release will go to him.
