Update on the computer I was given: Turns out the guy who built it had no idea what he was doing. The only fan in the case, the exhaust fan, was put in the front of the tower, backward; the hard drive was not mounted correctly (He tried to use the locking clips for the floppy drive which were obviously too small) and it was just shoved in the bay at an angle. It slid down and jammed the front fan, causing there to be essentially no airflow. I cleaned it up, put it back together correctly, added a fan... and it booted right up.

I just helped a wonderful customer replace the hard drive in her pc which she used to work from home and it is much faster now, preventing her from having to buy a new computer for work!
