Summer is approaching and spending time outside is a great way to be physically active, reduce stress, and get vitamin D! While outside this summer, it is important to protect your skin from the sun in order to reduce your risk of skin cancer. Most skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light that can damage skin cells. Some ways your can protect your skin from the sun are by the following:
1. Clothing – light weight and breathable long sleeved shirts and pants can provide UV protection
2. Hats- hats with an all-around brim are the best!
3. Sunglasses- sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays and reduce the risk of cataracts
4. Sunscreen- sunscreen blocks harmful sun rays and should be worn daily! The CDC recommends the use of a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 of higher
