I share my learnings, massive failures and some small successes, from the healthcare space. From working in the development space for hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and surgical practices to helping millions of families remove copays, deductibles, and co-insurances while finding higher-quality medical care at significantly lower prices. Follow me if you're intrigued about strategies to make healthcare affordable and accessible for all.

The world’s most important doctor to millions in the war-torn villages of Sudan (#40 rebroadcast) 11/03/2024

Why You MUST know Dr. Tom Catena.

Imagine being the only doctor in a war zone.

Now imagine that war zone is in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, where half a million people rely on you to survive.

That’s Dr. Tom Catena’s life.

In the documentary “The Heart of Nuba,” Dr. Catena’s mission is shown with raw honesty.

Here’s a man, a former Navy doc, who could have had a comfortable life practicing medicine anywhere, but he chose to serve people who have nothing.

It’s a relentless grind of surgeries, injuries, and little sleep, but he keeps going.

Why? Because he believes in it.

There’s no PR team, no profit margin—just one man and his duty to serve.

Here’s why you MUST watch this: We often hear that “business as usual” in healthcare can’t change.

But Dr. Catena challenges that belief by proving that when it’s about people first, everything else falls into place.

In a world driven by profit, he’s a reminder that medicine MUST be about the patient, not the bottom line.

His story will make you rethink why you’re in healthcare in the first place—or why we MUST all demand better.

Watch The Heart of Nuba is a shot of reality.

It’s healthcare in its purest form.

And if that doesn’t inspire…

I end up at a nonprofit health system without insurance.

They hand me a bill for $10,000.
I tell them, ‘I can’t pay this. I don’t even have health insurance.’

They say, ‘Well, our billing office can set up a lawsuit against you if that’s easier.’

I say, ‘Oh, perfect!
Can we stretch it out to pay over the next 100 years?’

They say, ‘We can do it in 20—if you live that long.’
I say, ‘Well, if you keep charging me, I might not.’

And the nurse hands me another form: ‘Sign here to waive your right to laugh about this later.’

And I tell them, ‘If I pay this, I’ll never laugh again.’
