Summer guilt is the feeling that you’re not making the most of the season- or that your summer doesn’t measure up to everyone else’s.

With social media full of vacations, beach days, and picture-perfect moments, it’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind. But those posts rarely tell the whole story.

The truth is, there is no “right” way to experience summer. Everyone’s circumstances, responsibilities, finances, and emotional needs are different!

Instead of comparing your summer to someone else’s, focus on what feels meaningful to you. Whether it’s an evening walk, dinner with family, reading outside, or simply taking time to rest, those moments are just as valuable 🫶🏾

Your worth isn’t measured by how full your calendar is or how many memories you post online. Sometimes the most meaningful summer moments come from slowing down, not trying to keep up 🩵

Summer is full of opportunities to make memories, but it’s also full of opportunities to build meaningful skills!☀️🩵

For many families, some of the most valuable learning happens during everyday moments, when children have the chance to practice new skills in real-world settings.

Here are five simple summer activities that can support your child’s development:

💦 Visit a splash pad
Waiting for a turn, listening for safety reminders, and transitioning between activities all provide natural opportunities to practice following directions.

🌿 Take a nature walk
Whether they’re pointing out a butterfly, asking questions about a flower, or telling you what they see, nature walks create countless opportunities to encourage communication.

🌱 Plant a garden together
Digging in the dirt, feeling different textures, watering plants, and smelling herbs can provide rich sensory experiences while helping children explore their environment at their own pace.

📚 Spend an afternoon at the library
Libraries offer a wonderful space to practice social skills like taking turns, using an indoor voice, following community expectations, and interacting with others in a structured setting.

🧺 Let them help prepare a picnic
Packing snacks, choosing utensils, assembling sandwiches, and cleaning up afterward are all great ways to build daily living skills while giving children a sense of independence.
