Although "Precious Lord" is traditionally sung at funerals , especially in the Black Community as a song of comfort that the person who transitioned is being led to the light to go home and be with the Lord . There are many renditions , the slaves song "Precious Lord" as they were escaping asking GOD to lead them to the next daylight and to guide them to freedom as they were getting tired traveling through the dark swamps through the night when it was easier to escape because it was easier to hide , but more treacherous . There were also verses added especially through artists like "Mahalia Jackson" guiding the slaves to safe paths and away from dangerous paths . It is also a great song of encouragement for a "Godly Person" whose Spirit is being tested to do the wrong things , but that person is calling and crying out to the Lord to guide them through the light of righteousness when darkness is attacking them . This song is very very "Powerful" especially when your Soul Is Crying Out To The Lord . 🤗 Just wanted to share what I learned when studying the origin of this song 🤗♥️✝️♥️ Real Talk
