The Kangal dog is a large and powerful ancient livestock guardian originally from the Sivas region in Turkey. This dog has been selectively bred over hundreds of years primarily as a Turkish sheep guardian based on their size, strength, temperament and appearance. There are large dogs and there are giant breeds. The Kangal is considered a Giant breed. The Kangal Sheppard Dog is calm, controlled, independent, powerful and protective.They may be aloof towards strangers, but a well-socialized Kangal is friendly with visitors and especially children. They must never be shy or vicious. The height of a male Kangal should be up to 32" and the weight for a male is anywhere from 110 pounds up to 145 pounds.
