::: WHY DIDN'T ANYONE THINK OF THIS SOONER? :::
SEE THE PHILLY ORCHESTRA PLAY "LIVE FILM SCORES" AT THE MANN!
Movie night is getting a facelift courtesy of the Philadelphia Orchestra and The Mann Center. On second thought, perhaps it’s more of an ear-lift. Anyway, the famed orchestra will be performing the scores to three select films—live—as they screen at the outdoor venue in West Fairmount Park.
First up is the Golden Globe-winning Best Original Score for GLADIATOR. The orchestra and a full chorus will perform the score to the film, transporting viewers back to ancient Rome on Friday, July 18 at 8 p.m.—keep in mind that doors open at 6 p.m. for all events. Keep the kids at home for this one: Gladiator is rated R. Writer, author and talk show host for 94 WIP, Anthony Gargano will emcee the evening.
Tonight, tonight, you can’t see WEST SIDE STORY tonight…but you can on Wednesday, July 30 when the second film in the series views. The Academy Award winning musical’s theatrical score comes to life starting at 8 p.m. Prior to show time, dancers from Main Line Ballroom will perform the famous choreography and teach show-goers some of the Broadway-worthy moves on the PECO Plaza at 6 p.m.
The following night, Thursday, July 31, boldly go to The Mann to see STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS when the orchestra plays the score to the J.J. Abrams flick at 8 p.m. Come ready for an intergalactic competition: dress in your best Star Trek costume, have your photo taken between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and the audience will vote for the Trekkiest audience member.
