To Whom It May Concern
Greetings:
I my name is Laniyia Matthews, and I’m writing to talk about a Leader, a pillar of plenty communities, a mentor, father to many, an unsung hero of the community as well. His name is Kelly DuPree, Jr. affectionately known to all as “COACH” or “TEAMMATE”; because of sports, mentoring & life lessons every time you come in contact with him. Where do I begin? Growing up in a West Philadelphia attending school throughout his education he played basketball, baseball, football and any sport they offered. Finishing school he worked at Bell Telephone and did work in the IT Field before it was such high demand he was more driven and passionate about giving back to the community in which he came from. Coach Kelly DuPree went onto start training the local children in the sports he was passionate about at the local playground. He gave his timed and his skills and his devotion and dedication to all “At Risk Youth” feeling it was his duty to guide and direct these children and also motivate them to use their time and skills to better themselves. He was in partnership with Arthur Ashe for tennis, took his children to baseball games where they met and received knowledge of the game from the Philadelphia Phillies. He also took the children to basketball games where the children also got firsthand knowledge from the Philadelphia 76ers. Coach Kelly’s focus was and is to show our children that with the right practice and development of their skills that playing for their schools could build them up and with perseverance their goals are ascertainable in life.
In the meantime Coach Kelly Referee’s and Umpires High School and Community games which ultimately turned into his income to fund these programs in which he runs for these children. I am writing you because what I didn’t mention was Coach Kelly does all these programs with his own income equipment and food. He started form the bottom without any help. Coach not only coached these children he had standards in order to be in his clinics and programs you had to receive good grades in school to remain a participant and in doing so Coach Kelly offered homework assistance programs. Coach Kelly mentored children of all ages from 3-18 years of age. He assisted with homework and school projects as well as college applications, job applications, financial aid paperwork and also how to building resumes. As you see this program was in-depth. Coach Kelly involved his teenagers to help guide and direct his youth. Mind you he’s been doing this for 25 years with his own money. I am writing to ask for your help in getting some funding for Coach Kelly’s Philadelphia Youth Development Corp (PYDC) a 501c3 NON-PROFIT TAX ID # (45-4259708) Organization. Our children are at risk and need outlets and Coach Kelly provides that; but he can’t do it alone. Our children deserve a chance to not only excel; to also showcase the skills they have acquired and be able to strive for the goals they’ve set for themselves. Coach Kelly needs some assistance in doing this. He provides their uniforms and he uses his own equipment. He buys and provides them with food and sports drinks. He transports the children to all events whether it is in his truck or buying tokens for public transportation. The children don’t only look to him for sports he also fathers these children supporting them in school events never hesitating to help them in any way positive.
