God has it been 40 years?!
This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Wanamaker Lewis Trio, my two-disc vinyl released in 1984.
This album featured Ron Greenstein on acoustic bass and tenor vocals, Richard Drueding on guitar and baritone vocals, some additional finger snaps by Robert Wakeley, and yours truly on guitar, banjo and lead vocals.
Happy anniversary, guys!

Anyone remember this guy?
Here's my rendition of Cannonball Rag by Merle Travis. It features the "Travis picking" technique which combines alternating bass notes and syncopated melodies.

"Wanamaker Lewis has to be the best banjo picker to come out of Philadelphia in ages."
-Gene Shay, WXPN Folk Alley on Sirius XM Radio
My banjo students start off by learning the basic strum for old-timey material and common roll patterns for bluegrass. After those techniques have been mastered, they begin studying out of Earl Scruggs' book, "The Bible of Bluegrass Banjo Playing."
