Today is Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. 🙌

At PPH, celebrating Juneteenth has become an annual tradition. It’s a day that brings our community together through educational presentations, games, dance, music and fun!

June is National Alzheimer's & Brain Health Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to highlight one of the many ways PPH residents keep their minds active and engaged.

One popular opportunity is Cranium Crunch, where residents give their brains a workout every Wednesday afternoon. Led by Life Enrichment Activities Director Kathy Nucero, this engaging program challenges participants to use memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through brain teasers, fill-in-the-blank exercises and recall games featuring famous names, phrases, places and more.

But Cranium Crunch is about more than mental exercise — it's also a time for connection and camaraderie. Residents enjoy testing their knowledge, sharing a few laughs and cheering each other on along the way.

"We sure do laugh a lot here," one resident said.

Besides Cranium Crunch, residents gather for board games in the Activities Room on Tuesday evenings, while a dedicated group meets Thursday mornings in the Fountain Room for Mah Jong. These are just a few of the many opportunities available to challenge the mind, build friendships and have fun along the way.
