If you want to learn more about how you can utilize OMT when you graduate, join SAAO. We will continue to promote the use of manual treatment! Remember, as a DO your hands are licesned to be therapeutic and OMT can be used across every single specialty if you find the time and need for it. Follow on IG if you want to be in the loop!

Here, you can watch a great example of what it looks like to treat an athlete with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT). This past weekend, our very own, Dr. Alex King, DO (.alex.king) was able to treat elite boxer Stacia Suttles ().
-
Her main imbalances were hip misalignment (left inflare), torsion of her sacrum (tailbone), stuck left diaphragm, and anterior restricted left shoulder.
-
In this video you can see Dr. King's progression from the feet to the head. Dr. King describes the way he untangles the body through gentle osteopathic manual manipulations (OMM)

Hey Everyone! My name is Chris Howard and am also a second year. I’m the National Liaison for SAAO’s PCOM-Philadelphia chapter, an ambassador, and also conduct research with Dr. Bravo’s ophthalmology lab. I’m a huge advocate of OMM because I’ve experienced the benefits first hand as it assisted in allowing me to fully recover from a fairly debilitating sports injury when I was younger.
Fun facts:
1. I grew up playing A LOT of sports and played with and against a handful of professional NBA and NFL players. I’m very active and enjoy planting any and all sports.

2. I worked in a stress neuroscience lab at the University of Pennsylvania (which later moved to the University of Maryland SOM) where I helped conduct research looking at how maternal stress can negatively contribute to neonatal brain development, predisposing them to psychiatric disorders that manifest during adolescence.

Hi everyone! My name is Larisa Kavetsky, an OMS-II🙂 I’m the Community Service Chair for PCOM’s chapter of SAAO as well as the president of Integrative Medicine Club, an ambassador, member of Pulmonics- PCOM’s a capella group, and part of the Health Career Collaborative. I really love OMM so if anyone ever needs some sub-occipital release or ENT sequence done (or anything else we’ve learned), let me know!!!

Fun facts:
1. Like Avery, I also have a strong tie to Russia! Russian was my first language, I went to Russian school every Saturday of my childhood, and I met my husband who is also Russian at Russian camp (which is in New York, not in Russia - common misconception) and he proposed in Russia last December!
2. I did Alzheimer’s research at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine for two summers ago and lived in a house on the water owned by the lab in the middle of Acadia National Park with ~30 other kids from around the US & PR! The house even came with a private chef! 😂
3. Unrelated to the Alzheimer’s project, I’m the first author in a neuroscience research study that was just published in Nature this past September!
