Biomedical Graduate Studies was established in 1985 and serves as the academic home within the University of Pennsylvania for roughly 700 students pursuing a PhD in the basic biomedical sciences. Although BGS is housed within the School of Medicine, it is composed of more than 600 faculty members across seven Penn schools and several associated institutes. The newly developed career development website for BGS features sections on core competencies that are cultivated through PhD training in the biomedical sciences, career paths for which PhD biomedical training can be particularly useful, and BGS alumni career outcomes. Additionally, it features a Career Blog that provides continually updated announcements, Penn and BGS events, online resources, and articles that pertain to career development in the biomedical field.
