Redox Diagnostics

We are pleased to share that our new manuscript “Redox Coherence and Decoherence as Emergent Biological States of the Redox Photonic Coupling System” is now publicly available on preprint and has been formally submitted for peer-review to PNAS Nexus.

This work introduces a new systems-level framework for understanding biological redox activity, moving beyond scalar redox metrics to an organizational model in which physiological outcomes are determined by redox coherence, redox decoherence, and the emergent control variable we term redox resilience.

Key ideas introduced:

• Redox coherence and redox decoherence as opposing organizational states, determining whether biochemical activity resolves into structured biological work or dissipates through loss of coordination
• A Redox Photonic Coupling System (RPCS) describing how redox reactions must remain dynamically paired in space and time, with preserved stoichiometry and structured hydration enabling productive resolution
• A nanodomain Coherence Interface, where redox excitation is either productively resolved or dissipated
• Recognition that photon emission is an intrinsic outcome of redox activity, with coherent or decoherent photonic behavior reflecting underlying redox organization
• A new concept of redox resilience as an emergent control property of living systems
• Testable predictions linking redox organization to photonic behavior, hydration dynamics, and recovery capacity

At a higher level, this framework proposes that physiological health is characterized by preserved redox organization and resilience, while pathology reflects loss of redox organizational integrity, with disruption of coherent redox coupling occurring upstream of inflammation, degeneration, and metabolic collapse.

We are optimistic this perspective will help bridge fundamental biophysics with translational medicine, opening new paths for diagnostics and therapeutics.
