Lucy shares small daily changes that lead to better health.

If you're eager to make a healthy lifestyle change, you might envision a dramatic shift in your daily habits, a strict diet or an extreme exercise regimen. Changes that occur on a dramatic scale can be motivating, but are not long-lasting. The reality is, positive health changes are often more likely to happen when they're small, consistent and repeated over time.

Small changes can make a difference in the long run. Whatever your aim is, from increasing energy to building fitness, lowering stress to just feeling better on a day-to-day basis, making small changes to everyday habits can make a big difference to your overall well-being.

Drink plenty of water in the morning

One of the simplest ways to make your health better is to drink a glass of water right after getting up. Your body is not being hydrated for several hours while sleeping. Drinking water in the morning will help get your metabolic rate moving, help concentrate your mind and aid digestion.

Some people mistake thirst for hunger and snack throughout the day. Maintaining a proper water balance can help keep your appetite under control, as well as help with your body's necessary functions.

Include more physical activity in the day.

DISCOMFORT IS A PART OF CHANGE

You know that uncomfortable feeling you get when you try something different or go against the flow and everyone looks at you like you’re crazy? Yeah, me, too.

I could go into all the science about how humans are a tribal species and we’re hard-wired for connection, and all the other stuff that’s completely true and explains why that feeling is so uncomfortable…but really. That’s not what you care about when you’re in that uncomfortable place. Understanding things intellectually is 1 thing, but what we all want is to make that uncomfortable feeling go away. We want to feel better…which often means reverting to the old behavior or going with the flow again. We get the short term comfort, and that’s where we stop.

Then we question. Did I make the right choice? Maybe it really isn’t a good idea since everyone else thought it was crazy.

Often we stay in that short term, go-with-the-flow comfort and abandon our original desires because we start to convince ourselves that we must be crazy, since everyone else disagreed.

You’re not crazy. Discomfort is a natural part of change, but nobody wants to tell you that part of the story. https://kindovermatter.com/discomfort-is-part-of-change/
