Keystone Paddlers
Weekend Water Rewind
📍 Lake Lanier – Gainesville, Georgia
📅 2020
A clip from a session that still sticks with me.
We had just finished 4–5 heavy resistor sets on the water with Coach Zsolt, and then went straight into a few 5 minute aerobic intervals. Everything was just clicking.
This was also the first season I switched from Jantex to Braca paddles. I remember using the Braca I (216) here and feeling a level of connection with the water that’s hard to describe; one of those moments where the whole stroke feels synchronized.
It’s a reminder of what a real flow state feels like in the boat with full-body connection, clean catches, and rhythm with the water.
Watching this clip now makes me want to bring the Braca I back out just to chase that same feeling again with it.
You’ll see a little natural pickup toward the end of the piece.
Crew in the session:
• Walker Peck — white boat, blue shirt
• Nathan Humberston — white boat, black shirt
• Andrii Monastryskii — blue boat
• Owen Farley-Klacik — in my Nelo Cinco
• Jesse Lishchuk — all black
We actually traded boats during this session. I ended up feeling much better in the large Cinco compared to the XXL, which I had been right on the edge of volume-wise.
This is the first of a weekly series where I’ll share paddling clips from over the years; sessions, races, and moments that stuck with me.
