Coming from a household where music was a big part of everyday life, fresh was greatly influenced by r&b artists of the late 80’s and early 90’s. It wasn’t until the late 90’s where fresh found hip-hop, quoting the likes of jay-z, dmx, and mase! By 12 he had already taught himself to play the keyboard by ear & use simple software programs to make his own beats. By the time fresh got to high school
the battle rap scene in Philadelphia was at an all time high, and that also influenced fresh a great deal. He participated in lunch room cyphers and battles, sharpening his skills as an MC. It made him aggressive musically and very competitive, being the best was all that mattered. Fresh wanted to be sharper as a producer, he looked up to Kanye West a great deal! He wanted to be able to create his own sound and also influence the entire industry while he was at it! Fresh attended Full Sail University in 2009 for audio production and engineering. Though he didn’t finish because of financial burdens, he learned more than what he needed to take his music to the next level. He returned to Philadelphia and immediately started recording, and making beats for local acts including his own “The Flight Team” which didn’t last more than a few months. He than started recording and making tracks with his close friend Young Nyce, later calling themselves “Fried City”. Fresh continued to sharpen his skills lyrically and also musically. At the end of 2013 Fresh was found by Anthony Young, though they knew each other already because fresh had made beats for him prior. He was now managing artist and was very much interested in managing Fresh & helping him get his tracks sold to local acts. Fresh dropped his debut project on February 16th, 2015 “The Taxi Ep” and has gotten a nice amount of praise for the Retro/Futuristic feeling project. Fresh has created a sound where soul & r&b samples meet aggressive & soulful lyrics. Where the 90’s meet infinity & beyond. The future is looking very bright for Mickey Fresh!
