Something special from the archives!
These c.1940 architectural drawings of Powel House are among the most beautiful in our collection. Highlights from the full set include the detailed west wall of the ballroom, stunning elevations of the central staircase and balustrade, and intricate renderings of the front doorway and first-floor windows.
These drawings beautifully capture the impressive architectural and decorative design that define the Powel’s house.

Donate today towards the Hill-Physick House Windows Restoration!

For more than two years we have been planning for the preservation of all 43 windows at the Hill-Physick House, the only remaining free-standing Federal mansion in the colonial center of Philadelphia and a National Historic Landmark. This work will restore the wooden exterior casings, sashes, sills, stops, and shutters of all 43 windows, along with necessary brick repointing, marking the final major capital project to preserve the building envelopes of all four PhilaLandmarks houses.

Thanks to two significant grants, one from the prestigious Save America’s Treasures program of the National Park Service and another from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Keystone Preservation grant, we have secured $250,000 toward the $300,000 project budget. Generous donors have already helped in closing our remaining gap of at least $50,000 and we look towards our community to help us get all the way!

Historian and author Mike Harris will discuss the fascinating and little-known story behind the 1777 Battle of Fort Mercer at 7 p.m, Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Historic Waynesborough in Paoli.

Harris will talk about the role of Hessian forces, their attack on the New Jersey fort and their defeat by the Continental Army. It would be the army’s only victory during the long and bloody Philadelphia Campaign waged by the British as they marched their way to the colonial capital.

Harris will sell and sign copies of his latest book, Fighting for Philadelphia: Forts Mercer and Mifflin, the Battle of Whitemarsh, and the Road to Valley Forge.

Admission is $15 at the door or online through the link in our bio.
