Is this what they call "building rapport"?

Just stopping by to say that you should feel safe and impowered during your massage. I've had eye-opening moments with a few clients when I told them that what they say, goes, during their session. No matter if it's the pressure not being what they want, the draping is a little too lax, they don't like the music, whatever, this is YOUR session and you are highly encouraged to advocate for yourself.

I'd much rather a client tell me in real time that something I'm doing is no bueno tha to let it go unchecked, and they leave with a bad taste and never come back... which is exactly what happened.

I dozed off and feel asleep for a hot second whilst massaging (found out the medical reason why later) a truly valued client, and they didn't want to outright say anything in order to spare me any embarrassment, but it made them feel super uncomfortable and they just stopped coming in. Fast forward a year later, they reached out to me and told me why they'd been M.I.A. and I felt horrible for not making it clear that their time is THEIRS and that this space was designed for each and every client to know that their best interest and comfort is a top priority here.

So yeah, we're here for you and need you to be here for you, too.
