👉🏻 Modern parenting often promotes constant emotional processing, claiming it builds resilience. But many educators, myself included, are seeing the opposite—more kids struggling with age-appropriate stress and appearing emotionally fragile.

👉🏻 What’s really happening:
Parents are moving away from dismissive past parenting styles toward one that values validation—and rightly so. Kids do need to feel seen and heard. But without a clear boundary that parents aren’t responsible for their child’s emotions, this well-meaning approach can backfire. If kids are never encouraged to manage their own feelings, they’ll rely on others to do it for them.

👉🏻 To prevent emotional dependence and maintain secure attachment, set a boundary that says: “I see you, I care, but I trust you to handle your feelings.” This helps kids feel supported while also learning to self-regulate—an essential skill for life.

I am not anti-screen; I actually advocate for finding ways to incorporate them in a balanced way. However, some situations simply call for their complete removal until the parent has regained control of their home and their child is meeting high expectations again.

Sometimes, the greatest support we can give is simply space to try again.
Because when we do less, we empower kids to do so much more.
