Demodex (commonly called “eye mites”) is a very common condition that can contribute to dry eye symptoms, irritation, itching, and inflammation along the eyelid margins.

The foundation of treatment is consistent lid hygiene. Warm compresses followed by gentle cleansing of the eyelids can significantly improve symptoms.

We typically recommend tea tree oil–based lid wipes, such as Oasis lid wipes, used 1–2 times daily. These are available in our office for your convenience.

In some cases, a prescription treatment such as Xdemvy eye drops may be appropriate to directly target Demodex mites. We can determine if this option is right for you based on your examination and symptoms. Call us at 267-335-2647 to schedule your appointment! 😎

Due to the air quality being low, you may feel irritated eyes. Using artificial tears is recommended during this time. If you wear contact lenses, try to take a break, or use contact lens re-wetting drops. Stay safe.
