This photo is a few years old. Pre-Noah, pre-postpartum fog, pre-standing in front of this exact skirt and feeling like a stranger in my own closet.

Been sitting with what that feeling actually was for a while now. Writing it out on Substack this week. Link in bio.

Yesterday I spent some time at the Studio Museum in Harlem.

Being there reminded me why style and culture are so important to me.

Art asks us to look closely, to notice reference, context, and the ways artists translate their experiences into form. I’ve come to think about personal style in a similar way.

When I style people, my first job isn’t choosing clothes.
It’s understanding who they are and how they move through the world.

From there, we begin translating that into aesthetic language.

Over the past few days I’ve been sharing some thoughts about fashion, style, and taste. I have been developing these ideas into a class.

Dressed by Taste explores personal style as something that develops through observation, cultural reference, and interpretation, not just consumption.

If you’re interested in thinking about style in this way, I’d love to have you in the class.
