Vitamin D is a power hormone (yes, I said hormone!) because it not only supports bone health, but it also helps keep your immune system strong, has anti-inflammatory properties, and is important to maintaining gut health. Optimal levels are between 50-70 ng/mL - do you know where your levels fall?

Most people know that Vitamin D (fat-soluble) should be taken with fat, which is why we encourage our patients to take their supplements with a meal but most people don't realize that it is also important to have adequate levels of Vitamin K2.

If you are taking Vitamin D3 without sufficient Vitamin K2, this may result in excessive calcium buildup in places where calcium should not be - like the arteries. The delicate dance of these two vitamins is an important one: Vitamin D is responsible for calcium absorption, while K2 is essential for regulating where calcium ends up in the body – in the bone where it belongs, and not in other tissues.

Knowledge is power!

Strawberry season is almost here! Here are 5 reasons why our Nutritional Therapist, Tanya, loves adding strawberries into the mix.

1. Antioxidant Powerhouse: Strawberries are rich in antioxidants that help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Strawberries are a great source of essential vitamins and minerals like folate, potassium, and manganese, supporting overall health and well-being.

2. Immune Booster: Loaded with vitamin C, strawberries support a healthy immune system, helping you fight off infections and stay healthy.

3. Heart Health: The fiber and flavonoids in strawberries can promote heart health by reducing cholesterol levels and improving blood flow.

4. Skin Savior: The high vitamin C content in strawberries supports collagen production, keeping your skin healthy, radiant, and youthful.

5. Weight Management: With their low-calorie and high-fiber content, strawberries can help you feel satisfied while keeping your calorie intake in check.
