I was reading this article this morning and immediately thought about a conversation I had Wednesday night on culture and leadership.
A few things stood out to me:
Doc Rivers reportedly “didn’t fine anybody.”
No accountability. No discipline.
Leadership is revealed not only by what we correct, but also by what we allow. Every culture eventually reflects the standards that are enforced or ignored.
Then you see where the star player was allowed to do whatever he wanted. Maybe it was fear of conflict. Maybe it was fear of losing influence, production, or loyalty. But when one person becomes bigger than the culture, the culture eventually collapses around them.
What really caught my attention was Myles Turner saying he “learned” not to show up on time.
Culture is contagious.
Both excellence and dysfunction are transferable.
People don’t just hear culture they absorb it.
And the result?
A nine year playoff streak ended.
Everything rises and falls on leadership. Leadership is not just about building talent; it’s about protecting standards. Because when leaders stop guarding the culture, culture starts guarding the dysfunction.

Pastors
You step into moments of people’s lives, not to possess their journey, but to participate in it. And sometimes that participation feels costly
you pour deeply, and some of them never say thank you.
You invest faithfully, and they build somewhere else.
You show up consistently… and they disappear without explanation.
But here’s the tension:
Offense is often the echo of misplaced ownership.
We ache not just because we gave but because, somewhere along the way, we started to believe they were ours to keep.
They’re not.
We don’t own people we steward people.
You were never called to be their source, only a vessel.
So release the weight.
Because the Kingdom has always worked like this:
You plant.
Another waters.
And God alone brings the increase.
the harvest was never dependent on your hands… just your faithfulness.
So keep showing up.
Keep pouring out.
And don’t confuse participation with possession.
