The story behind the title of the video. I show the tire and hub after I recovered it. I was northbound in the center lane on I-75 in Florida. I heard a popping sound like I had a blowout. I looked out my driver’s side mirror when I noticed the front trailer tire going toward opposing traffic; mind you about a week earlier I had seen a video of a tire coming off a regular truck and a small car being catapulted into the air and doing a somersault.

Horrified with images running through my mind of people getting hurt, I watched the tire move toward what was about to be oncoming traffic. Just then the barrier in the center of the interstate started to pass out my driver’s door. A split second later the tire contacted the barrier and bolted back toward my side of the interstate. It was slowing down because I was staying ahead of it watching all this in the side mirror.

Luckily, on the right side there was a grassy area past the shoulder that was about 30 feet wide. I quickly looked to see if there were other vehicles on the right side of the truck. Well, it was a good day. There was no one around me at all and the tire moved directly behind the boat I was pulling, and I was able to keep the tire behind the boat until I reached the shoulder of the interstate. A split second later I saw it jolt out from behind me.

As I slowed down on the shoulder the tire came into view out my passenger window where I watched it hit a small fence which it chose to climbed up. It shot up about 10-15 feet in the air then fell to the ground where it quickly came to rest. The horrifying situation was finally over.

That is what I call a great day! It was the perfect scenario for the situation, NO ONE was around. I had to deal with the mistake of someone trying to cut corners and not do the right thing. Someone could have been killed because of what they did. I tell people all the time… Safety rules and regulations are written in blood. That’s the story.
