City Manager declares State of Emergency for Peekskill
Peekskill, N.Y.: City Manager Matt Alexander declared a state of emergency for the City of Peekskill for the duration of the storm tonight, February 22, 2026 through Monday February 23, 2026. City crews have been preparing for the event. Citizens are advised to stay off City streets unless absolutely necessary. They are also urged to comply with Winter Parking regulations to ensure that each resident is able to benefit from emergency and plow vehicle access. A full staff is at work.
In an attempt to help commuters and residents adhere to alternate side of the street parking regulations during the event, FREE PARKING has been made available at the Nelson Avenue Parking Garage (in metered spaces only - no parking in permitted spaces), James Street Parking Garage (All covered spaces within the parking deck structure are available, including permitted spaces - top level is not recommended as it will not be plowed - James Street outdoor parking lots are NOT included). Metered street parking is NOT included and be sure to adhere to alternate side of the street parking regulations as posted
Finally, do not place any snow onto the streets. Snow from vehicles and sidewalks shall be placed behind the curb, behind the sidewalk or removed appropriately. Please adhere to the sidewalk regulations regarding time limits for snow removal for the safety of all pedestrians.

· West Side garbage pickup: Tuesday, Feb 24
· East Side garbage pickup: Wednesday, Feb 25
· Newspaper&cardboard(residential citywide): Thursday, Feb 26
· Commingle pickup: Friday, Feb 27 (unchanged)
Monday February 23rd Council meeting will be on zoom only.

The NWS has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH in effect from Sunday morning through Monday Afternoon...

* WHAT...Heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations between 6 and 10 inches are possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of Southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York.

* WHEN...From Sunday morning through Monday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. The combination of gusty winds and heavy wet snow could bring down tree branches.
