This Week in Play School Club 🌊

What looks like simple ocean play is actually intentional, skill-building learning designed to prepare your child for preschool and beyond.

As our little learners explored this week’s ocean theme, they weren’t just playing. They were strengthening coordination through movement-based “clean up,” building focus and hand strength while rescuing ocean animals, and beginning early math foundations through hands-on number exploration.

We introduced the number 3 in a way that’s meaningful and memorable through touch, movement, and repetition so learning truly sticks.

This is the kind of play that builds confidence, independence, and real foundational skills, all while your child is having the BEST time.

Messy play + literacy makes learning meaningful and fun 👟💙 This week our messy station was inspired by I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin. In the story, Pete steps in strawberries, blueberries, mud, and water but no matter what happens, he keeps walking and singing because it’s all good. The book introduces color recognition, sequencing, and resilience in a playful, rhythmic way. To bring the story to life, we created a Storybook Messy Walk for our sensory table. 👟 How the Children Explored: • Children used a real white shoe and “walked” it through piles of strawberry, blueberry, and mud, just like Pete in the story. • Behind each sensory pile were visuals from the book to help children connect the messy play to the storyline. • They watched as the white shoe changed colors, noticing cause and effect with each step. • At the end of the walk, they brought the shoe to a bucket of water to “wash” it clean, just like Pete. This activity supported: • Sensory exploration • Color recognition • Sequencing and story recall • Fine motor development • Emotional resilience (“It’s all good!” mindset) Because sometimes we step in the “strawberries” of life… and sometimes the “blueberries”… and it is all good 💙 Join us next week for more hands-on, story-inspired sensory fun at 914 PLAYS.

💙🚜 Little Blue Truck Week Recap 🚜💙 Little Blue Truck inspired a week full of muddy fun, sensory exploration, and hands-on learning! 🎨 We started layer one of our collaborative canvas by rolling trucks through blue paint and watching tire tracks come to life. 🛻 Used block stamps and stickers to recreate a scene from the story 🐷 Washed muddy farm animals using brushes and sponges, scrub scrub scrub! 🌱 Rolled and squeezed coffee-scented “dirt” play dough to strengthen our little hands. 🌾 Explored trucks and farm animals in beans and corn kernels, scoop, pour, repeat! 🏗️ Pretend played all week in our new market and construction zone, practicing teamwork and imagination. So much learning through play, problem-solving, and creativity! 💛 ✨ Ask your child what their favorite part of Little Blue Truck Week was and tell us in the comments! 🚜💬

When Little Blue gets stuck in the mud, the farm animals work together to help him out, teaching friendship and teamwork. We brought the story to life with cocoa oobleck “mud” in our sensory table. 🐷 Children: • Stomped and “rescued” farm animals in the mud • Squeezed and scooped the oobleck, noticing how it feels solid and then runny • Washed their muddy animals at the water bin with brushes and sponges Skills we’re building: • Sensory exploration • Fine motor strength • Cooperative play • Story comprehension through dramatic play 💙 See recipe below if you want to try at home. 🍫 Cocoa Oobleck Recipe 🍫 Supplies needed: • 1/4 cup cocoa • 2 cups cornstarch • 1 cup water Directions: 1. Mix the cocoa and cornstarch together in a large bowl. 2. Slowly add water while stirring. 3. Mix until combined. It should feel firm when squeezed and melt when released. ✨ Make it even more fun by inviting your child into the process! Let them help measure, pour, stir, and follow each step. Cooking together builds early math skills like measuring and counting, strengthens fine motor muscles, encourages listening and following directions, and supports language development as you talk through what’s happening. Featuring my 3 year old assistant who takes his mixing job very seriously 🤎 They’re always more excited to play with something they helped create. ✨

💗💘 Valentine’s Week Recap! 💘💗 This week was filled with love, creativity, and hands-on sensory play as we explored our Valentine’s theme together. Children enjoyed: • Creating a collaborative sponge art project • Making spin art hearts using the salad spinner • Mixing and pouring love potions for imaginative play • Scooping and squeezing heart sponges in the water table • Squishing and shaping cloud dough cupcakes • Scooping Valentine beads through funnels to build fine motor skills • Exploring translucent hearts at the light table In Play School Club, children also worked on: • Practicing early math by counting pom poms and using tweezers to drop them into a tray • Building pre-writing skills by hammering the outlines of hearts • Crafting with dot markers to create beautiful Valentine heart-work So many sweet moments of play, learning, and connection packed into one love-filled week 💕✨ ✨ Ready for more playful learning? 🏀⚽️ Sports Week Recap! ⚾️🏈 This week was all about movement, coordination, and hands-on fun! 🤸🏾‍♀️ Our athletes in training: • Sprayed jerseys to build hand strength • Scooped, squeezed, and cut the spaghetti “field” • Practiced pouring and scooping with a dispenser • Dropped balls down ramps in the water table • Balanced balls side-to-side for a focused craft activity • Ran, jumped, and balanced through an obstacle course In Play School Club, children also worked on: • Tracing to support early writing skills • Counting through hands-on activities • Ripping and gluing for a sports-themed craft to strengthen fine motor skills So much play, learning, and teamwork packed into one energetic week! 💪🏾

Weekly Recap: Arctic Animals 🐧❄️ This week our little ones traveled to the Arctic through hands-on sensory play, creative art, and playful learning! Children were able to: • Dig and play in the sandbox with penguins • Splash at the water table with penguins and icebergs, sliding penguins down the ramp • Build igloos using shaving cream and real ice cubes • Roll paint over bubble wrap for textured art • Explore polar bears and penguins in snowy scenes on the light table • Craft their very own igloos to take home In Play School Club, children also: • Practiced early math skills while feeding Arctic animals • Used resistance art techniques to create a polar bear • Made an adorable polar bear snack 🐻‍❄️ So much chilly fun, fine motor practice, sensory play, and learning packed into one week!
