Just a thought ...

For over 20+ years I have been a Business Development Manager, Managing Partner, or some type leader in some capacity throughout my career in the industrial rental industry. There have been times I have seen the struggles of hiring talent, 100’s of interviews of college educated young men and women where I saw no fire in their eyes. We all know what i am referring too ..that burning desire to get into an organization and make their mark through hard work, dedication, determination and putting their time in.

We have seen what the “everyone gets a trophy” generation has done to our youth. We have no longer equipped the new generation with the understanding of what it means to fail and learn from it. How to use those set backs to refocus their goals and then bust their butt to achieve success. There is no greater reward and feeling!

Our country is going in the opposite direction with this methodology than other developing nations. Their youth are required to compete to pull themselves from poverty. While our youth complain it’s just to hard to find a job when 1000’s exist. But they want to be CEO, CFO, President from jump and if they can’t then they quit....

Failure becomes the only option from the consequences of quitting. Here is something we should put some thought into ..Let’s start teaching our youth to compete again and learn it’s ok to fail as long as you don’t quit!
