Gifts of Character: Determination
Aggressor: Determination is about focusing on a task and completing something even when it is not easy. Determination is a perfect example of how any virtue that comes naturally to us has both negative or positive ways of being demonstrated. An aggressor may express their power or influence in a negative way and be determined to do so. They could use this same determination and willpower to transform themselves and learn to treat others respectfully.
Target: The target of aggression can use determination to stand up to the attacks of others. Others can support their decision, but the goal is working on being assertive and to setting boundaries. They will keep going when times are tough and ask for help when they need it, without being embarrassed to do so.
Bystander: The bystander in any situation of aggression is determined to help the target of attacks by speaking up for them. They are determined to bring about peace for the individual and the community. Their goal is to bring relief to the oppressed one and to help them gain the strength they need to believe in themselves. They may also be determined to change the culture of their community to one of peace and tolerance.
