Edgar County ESDA
06/29/2026
3 years ago today Edgar County was hit with this. Ended up with the county having a FEMA Disaster Declaration.
THREE YEARS AGO TODAY: the Derecho swept across Central Illinois. 200,000 customers were without power in our viewing area alone, many for days and some for more than a week. There was hardly an area not impacted by it. The storm produced widespread 100mph+ wind gusts as it raced through. Multiple tornadoes were also reported from it. It also followed an impressive morning storm that dropped baseball size hail early that morning on Tuscola.
I remember hearing the howling winds in the StormTracker SW of Decatur and it was almost a scream. I hadn’t heard wind like that since the eye of Hurricane Michael, so I knew it was going to be bad. I heard a lighter version of that howl a few weeks ago when the tornado producing line came through along/north of I-74.
