Logan County winter weather damage assessment explanation. During any major weather event each county completes an assessment of damage. This includes two primary categories of damage which is Individual Assistance that cover residential homes and Public Assistance that helps with infrastructure. There are other damage categories also. Each county has a dollar amount threshold to meet before qualifying for a disaster declaration. A disaster declaration is declared by the County Judge and submitted to the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management. They are the ones who have to gather damage from all of the counties to see if the State as a whole qualifies for a Presidential Disaster. Each state has their own qualifying threshold to meet before being approved for a Presidential Disaster. This is when FEMA gets involved.
Not all weather events qualify for a Presidential Disaster but may qualify for a state disaster. Snow events don’t usually qualify for any assistance in either case under the disaster guidelines but in any case, it is good for everyone who has damage to get their information in to their local emergency manager in case there are any funds available for assistance.
The list of damages from this storm will be sent to the state and any information that we receive back will be sent to everyone on the list if any assistance becomes available.

Tonight we will experience a major winter weather event. Please check on your elderly neighbors and family members during this winter storm. When using generators make sure they are outside of the home and away from doors to keep carbon dioxide from entering the home. Do not use charcoal grills in the home and if you use electric heaters make sure they are away from curtains, blankets and clothes.
