Paramus Rescue Squad
Originally formed in 1952 as part of the borough’s Civil Defense and Disaster Management, the Paramus Rescue Squad has evolved into one of the Northeast’s respected Emergency organizations. In 1990 the squad gained international recognition by taking first place in the International Extrication Competition held in Florida. Most recently the squad has taken first place overall in both the 1996 and 1997 Mid-Atlantic Regional Extrication Competition.

Dec 1, 2025 - Paramus Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kurt Harba and Paramus Rescue Squad Chief Peter Braun are pleased to announce that the Rescue Squad will now be a part of the Paramus Fire Department.
The Rescue Squad will now be the fifth company of the PFD based out of the same location and membership will also remain the same.
In this modern era, it has become increasingly difficult to recruit volunteers for both of these emergency services. This merger will help both organizations to operate more efficiently and will ultimately benefit the community we serve.
