Emma Gehring, the daughter of Brent and Kathryn (Alt) Gehring, and little sister of Aiden, was recently diagnosed with a formidable brain tumor. A student of Brent’s coined the phrase, “stay Emma Strong”, and it has caught fire on Twitter as #EmmaStrong. This site has been created to help raise funds for the Gehring family as they set out on Emma’s journey. According to her parents, ever since Emm
a was born in May of 2012 she has been a bit of a drama queen. If she was supposed to be able to do something, she would wait until the last day to be able to do it. Brent and Kathryn had noticed a few delays during her development including rolling over, the use of her left hand, crawling, a lack of weight gain, and issues with strabismus (a condition in which the eyes are not properly aligned with one another). With each one of these hurdles she would overcome the problem and then smile and give them a squeak, or giggle. Little did they know the magnitude of Emma’s problems. Since her diagnosis on January 2nd, a team of doctors have been working around the clock to find the best way to attack the tumor. After consulting with a specialist in Boston, MA the Gehrings have decided to travel east in order to start a rigorous treatment process at Boston Children’s Hospital. This decision was made to insure that the first step of the process was done in a location that allowed everyone involved in the treatment of Emma to be a specialist in their respective area.
