As many of you know who have been in Internet marketing from the beginning. Danny Sullivan has been in the forefront of the industry from the beginning. He is now joining Google. I can only imagine what is to come from this marriage.

DMOZ is closing. This may mean nothing to many of you, but for those of us who were around during the early days of SEO this marks the end of an era. Back in the day, getting through to one of the human editors that ran DMOZ, the Open Directory Project, and getting your site listed was the goal of anyone trying to draw traffic to their site.

DMOZ was born in the late 90’s along with the Yahoo Directory. In those days, humans rather than machines were trying to organize the web. Google changed all that. The Yahoo Directory has become less and less relevant until it closed a couple of years ago. Now DMOZ is going away.

I may sound a little nostalgic for the old days of SEO, but I’m not. The sophistication of today’s search engines in getting relevant information to the top of their listings is great for SEO practitioners, site owners and site visitors alike.
