The Center often collaborates with the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH), an educational organization for professionals in clinical and academic bioethics and the health-related humanities.

In an ASBH article, Ryan Pferdehirt, Vice President of Ethics Services, describes how and why he uses the third edition (September 2025) of ASBH’s book, Core Competencies for Healthcare Ethics Consultants, as a primary tool to build confident, skill-driven ethics committees.

“A lot of people who are doing ethics work don’t think of themselves as ethicists,” he said. “By outlining core knowledge, process skills, and interpersonal skills, the book helps demystify ethics work.”
