Goff's Drive In

Edwin Goff first opened the window at 212 South Orange Blossom Trail in 1948. When Mr. Goff was ready to retire the ice cream shop, my grandfather, William Truesdell, kept the tradition alive with the agreement that the name wouldn’t change. After my grandfather passed, my grandmother, Joanne Truesdell, continued Mr. Goff’s legacy. Wanting to enjoy the retirement she had earned from her own career, my grandmother entrusted me with what I knew as an unofficial landmark of Orlando. I have taken great pride in continuing Mr. Goff’s and my grandparents’ legacy, for the last 13 years.

You will find decades of notable events that occurred at and around Goff’s archived in newspapers, on television and throughout social media. What you won’t find documented are the countless conversations, experiences and relationships, smiles, tears of joy and sorrow, laughter and hugs that Goff’s has witnessed.

Goff’s has always been more than just a cinder block ice cream shop and we refer to our customers as Orlando’s Finest for a reason. No matter the weather or temperature, you showed up. When there was a pandemic, you showed up. When there was adversity, you showed up. When we asked for your help, you showed up, big.

My plan was to continue the legacy. My plan was to create more memories, meet more generations, share in more celebrations. My children’s plans were to one day continue what Mr. Goff started and what you, our extended Orlando family have helped build. But, we also have learned, try as we might, we are not in control. He is. And we have no choice but to trust His purpose for us.

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21

Thank you Orlando. This isn’t goodbye. This is see you later. We feel your love Orlando. And I hope you feel ours. ❤️ 🍦

Happy Friday Orlando- it’s time for our weekly update.

Orlando we just can’t explain the love we feel from you. You are such a huge part of where our strength has come from this last month. You haven’t let us down and we won’t let you down. We’ve missed seeing your smiles, hearing your stories and being a part of your daily lives.

A lot of sweat and emotion have been inside of Goff’s this week. We’ve finally been able to remove all of the interior destruction that evil left behind. We’ve started installing paneling on the walls and next is the ceiling. We hear your prayers, we see your social media posts and we feel your love Orlando. We will rebuild. We will reopen. Because of you. We love you Orlando.🍦❤️

This gate has endured decades of history, has held strong through many hurricanes and isn’t going anywhere. We are so happy to have removed the first plywood board. She’s so much more than a gate, she’s a reminder that rebuilding is possible.🍦❤️
