Another demo of the IDEM Drug Data Analytics software, this time showing the illicit drug supply in Broward County - home of Fort Lauderdale. In 2022, Broward had over 700 drug deaths - over 500 deaths involving illicit 🤯. There was also some presence of “tranq dope” (xylazine) in the drug supply, in which xylazine is mixed with illicit fentanyl… xylazine is not an opioid so Narcan does not work for overdoses caused by xylazine.

Aside from co***ne, is also flooded with cathinones (bath salts), more specifically PiHP, pentylone, dim**hylpentylone, and eutylone. Data indicates that users are intentionally “speed balling” their illicit fentanyl with co***ne, m**h, or cathinones. The illicit fentanyl itself isn’t safe because it’s already a mixture impurities that we’re never removed from the illicit manufacture of fentanyl, so mixing it with stimulants is a riskier combination of substances.

If you recall, bath salts caused a national stir in 2012 when media reported on the “ attack” in which a guy allegedly high on bath salts was eating a homeless man’s face… in the end, officials concluded he wasn’t high on cathinones, but the “zombie attack” is forever associated in our minds with “bath salts”.

With this data, our goal is to alert agencies and communities of the illicit drugs on the street to enhance a more effective drug interdiction and response. Be safe out there residents 🥺.

Pandemic drug overdose leaves St. Pete mother at a loss 04/27/2021

"Opioids" is a buzz word when discussing overdoses in the . Although they contribute they are NOT ALWAYS the lone culprit. Many times (and in the case of the linked story out of St. Pete ) multiple drugs in addition to are found in the deceased (i.e. co***ne, benzos)- which is common in accidental ODs involving illicit & counterfeit drugs. This is known as polysubstance overdose.

No matter how much regulation there is on prescription opioids, illicit and counterfeit drug supplies will continue to largely contribute to overdose deaths if public officials, lawmakers, and law enforcement do not change their scope on how to deal with them.
