A great view deserves more than a standard window layout.

When I’m designing a home, I’m always thinking about what each window is doing. Some are there to bring in natural light, some are there to highlight the landscape, and some are there to give a space a stronger architectural feel.

The right window design can make a room feel bigger, brighter, and a lot more intentional. When it’s done right, the view becomes part of the design.

Which laundry setup would you prefer?

Some homeowners want exposed machines and easy access. Others want a more finished look with counter space, cabinets, and room to fold. Either way, the design has to support the daily routine, not just look good in photos.

A staircase can either blend into the background or become one of the defining features of a home. For me, it comes down to placement, materials, and how it interacts with the surrounding space. The right staircase can add warmth, contrast, movement, or even a more modern architectural edge; but the key is making sure it still feels connected to the rest of the design.

Built-ins like this are less about filling a wall and more about creating a place you and your family cherish.

The proportions, symmetry, and detailing all have to work together - from the arch and shelving to the integrated seating and storage. When it’s designed right, it turns an in-between space into something functional, comfortable, and intentional.

A well-designed island sets the tone for the entire kitchen.

It’s not just about making it big; it’s how the scale fits the space, how the materials contrast or complement, and how the seating and workflow are integrated. When those elements are done right, the kitchen island doesn’t just fill the space, it’s what defines it.

Exteriors are where everything starts. Before you ever walk inside, the home has already said something.

These three builds take completely different approaches. One leans modern with clean lines and bold contrast, another moves more traditional with layered materials and warmer tones, and the last pulls in a refined, European-inspired feel with lighter stonework and symmetry. There’s no “right” style, it’s about designing something that feels right the moment you pull up.

From Tyson’s Desk:

"This project pushed me in a way I always appreciate. The biggest challenge here was the geometry. The home isn’t built on a simple straight axis; it moves.

You enter, shift at an angle, and then the great room pulls your focus out toward the backyard. That kind of layout can create a lot of dead space if you’re not careful, so the goal was making every transition feel intentional while still keeping the home highly functional.

We spent a lot of time refining how those angles connect - from the entry, through the kitchen, and into the main living spaces - making sure it felt natural even though it’s doing something different.

One of my favorite features the is the floating ceiling in the kitchen and entry. It wasn’t something I originally brought to the table, but how it came to life turned it into a defining moment in the home. The lighting, the reflection, the way it anchors the space - it all came together better than expected.

Another big evolution on this project was simplifying the exterior. The original concept had more aggressive rooflines and movement, but through collaboration with the client, we scaled that back. Instead of relying on shape, we leaned into material changes, thicker profiles, and stronger lines to create depth and character. It’s a good reminder that sometimes restraint leads to a stronger result.

At the end of the day, this was a highly collaborative process. There were pivots, redesigns, and a lot of problem-solving along the way, but that’s what makes a project like this successful. The end result feels intentional, balanced, and unique, which is always the goal."

It’s a small decision that ends up affecting how the space actually works day to day: one sink or two?

A dual vanity setup gives you separation, efficiency, and a smoother morning routine (especially in a primary bath). But a single sink isn’t a downgrade. In the right layout, it frees up counter space, simplifies the design, and can make a smaller bathroom feel a lot more open. Like most things, it comes down to how you live.

What about in your bathroom remodel, is a single sink the dealbreaker? Let me know in the comments below.

The kitchen island is where everything happens. When I design grand kitchens like these, the island is often the anchor. Proportion, material, spacing… Everything needs to work around it. You get it right, and the whole space feels effortless. That’s the goal every time.

One thing I focus on early in the design process is how the outdoor space connects to the home. Access points, coverage, sightlines… It all has to make sense. When it’s done right, you don’t feel like you stepped outside; it just feels like more of the home.
