Scammers are impersonating the IRS and tax preparers to try to steal your personal information and file fake returns or claim refunds in your name.

Common Red Flags:
• Unexpected contact: Scammers contact you on social media or by phone, threatening legal action.
• Urgent payment requests: Criminals often demand immediate payment via wire transfers, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.
• Links or attachments in messages: Phishing emails often include fake IRS logos and links to "verify your account."

Tips to Keep You Safe from Tax Fraud:
• File as early as possible
• Update passwords and use two-factor authentication
• File on protected Wi-Fi networks
• Shred old tax documents
• Use trusted tax preparers
