Throwback Thursday:
Allow me to introduce you guys to my Grandpa, John Cecil Chaney. In his prime he stood 6' and weighed about 210 lbs. He was a big man of few words and quite the temper. Yet he had a soft spot for livestock.
He was born August 14 1933 to a family of farmers. He grew up laboring hard with his dad using horses to log the surrounding wood lands. This instilled a love for horses in him and me.
In c. 1951 he married my Grandma Dorthy Bell. Who according to him wouldn't stop following him around. They spent 60+ years together and brought four boys and one girl into this world.
After a few years of marriage Grandpa took a job at a local aluminum mill to support his farming habit. He hated that job, but it provided first for the farm and second for the family (priorities ya know?). After 30 years and a decent pension he retired and threw every bit of himself into his beef and hay operations.
The man worked nonstop. He loved bailing hay and messing with his herd of limousine cross cattle. He worked sun up to sun down till his body was too frail from leukemia to hold himself upright in the tractor seat. He passed away in 2016.
He's one of my heroes and instilled a love for agriculture in me. I use to love calling him on the phone every so often and compare cattle prices as well as farming practices. Farming on a high plains desert is a little different than southeast Ohio.
He was a good one and I'm glad to call him my Grandpa.

Yesterday I told a friend I was loading at Lehi Roller Mills in the morning.
"I thought that was just a landmark," he said.
NOPE! Lehi Roller Mills still produces old fashion high quality flour to customers. In fact in a previous setting in my life I use deliver 50lbs sacks of Lehi flour to restaurants. It was a great workout.
Now I load wheat mids out of Lehi on a bulk truck. When you produce flower you use the germ of the kernel and the rest of the kernel is ground up for livestock feed.
The load today will go to JDH's Wendell facility. It'll be used to be mixed into custom feeds for dairies and feedlots.
Thanks Lehi Roller Mills and JDH for letting me be part of the .
