Join us tonight for the People’s Council—a collaborative space where Southeast Texans come together to discuss the issues that impact our lives: education, healthcare, taxes, jobs, water, energy, and community well-being.

No experience. No special knowledge. Just your voice and your perspective.

Our leaders can’t know what we want if we don’t tell them.

The people of Southeast Texas are coming together to coordinate, collaborate, and be heard.

Let’s make some noise together.

We will be protesting the Confederate Memorial at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Interstate 10 (northwest corner). We will have a water cooler, so please bring your own reusable water container and a rag to help keep cool. We will be there from 4:00 - sunset. We will have a few extra signs, but encourage all participants to bring a sign including messaging about MLK Jr., antiracism, speaking out against Confederate Monuments.

A core principle behind SETX Impact Initiative events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to the event.

This protest is in partnership with our friends Jeremy Parzen and his wife, Tracie Parzen. Tracie and our co-founder, Adriana Smoak are both natives of Orange, Texas and outspoken activists against this memorial. Please see Jeremy’s article on the memorial from last year, with links in the article to see their historical efforts against this monument.
