“Why do they get a whole month?”
“Hate the sin, love the sinner.”
“I don’t care as long as they keep it to themselves.”
Microaggressions aren’t new to the LGBTQIA+ community, but being visible is. The very first symbol of the q***r community were pink triangles worn by prisoners in concentration camps. 52 years ago, the q***r community decided to stand up for themselves and a movement was born. A movement of visibility, of life and pride. In the 80’s & 90’s, q***r people were ignored as a plague swept through the community. It was a subtle genocide—one of willful ignorance, fear, and attributed to justice on the damned from the hand of God. The q***r community deserves the opposite of silence and invisibility. In some places, pride may have morphed into rainbow capitalism, but Parlour 1887 doesn’t care about making a dollar. We care about the q***r children who pass our store and know they have a safe space. We care about our neighborhood, where nearly every store waves a rainbow flag. We care about our employees, clients, and strangers.
Thank you to BFF for painting our windows and showing the world that we are a place for everybody to showcase their pride. And thank you to these clients who show their ass, because now we are aware that you are no longer welcome inside the safe space that we have created. Next time you’re offended by a rainbow, ask yourself what you didn’t have to live through.
“We have to do it because we can no longer stay invisible. We have to be visible. We should not be ashamed of who we are.” -Sylvia Rivera

***ATTENTION*** Counselors are a critical (and LACKING) part of schools especially in our neighborhood. With school going back and most people being uncertain and afraid our counselors are going to be overwhelmed by those in need even more than usual. If you would like to help PLEASE bring cleaning wipes, hand sanitizer or cleaning supplies of any kind to the salon ASAP. We will give you $5 off your next appointment! Stop by anytime during regular business hours! (We will be closed Friday August 7 and Saturday Aug 8th) Thank you in advance!

We got up early to wake up Don Klein and remind him that justice is still not being served for James. Special thanks to and for organizing these demonstrations to bring light to the injustice in Omaha. They have worked tirelessly for the cause and it doesn't go unnoticed.
