|| Contrast || Life has been full of a lot of starkly contrasting ups and downs the last few weeks, but still things are drenched in the both in beautiful moments and tragic moments and they add a depth to life that I could not plan, desire, or regret. Each moment teaches us about ourselves, others, our world, and the way it changes us. As we rattle the comfort of our day to day life it tends to shake the dust off of what we’ve became comfortable with. Let us relish in the contrast, for it tends to add depth to our existence and honesty.

|| Appearance || “Who are poor and dependent? Who are rich and independent? When was it that men agreed to respect the appearance and not the reality? Why should the appearance appear? Are we well acquainted, then, with the reality? There is none who does not lie hourly in the respect he pays to false appearance. How sweet it would be to treat men and things, for an hour, for just what they are! We wonder why the sinner does not confess his sin. When we are weary with travel, we lay down our load and rest by the wayside. So, when we are weary with the burden of life, why do we not lay down this load of falsehoods which we have volunteered to sustain, and be refreshed as never mortal was? Let the beautiful laws prevail. Let us not weary ourselves by resisting them. When we would rest our bodies we cease to support them; we recline on the lap of earth. So when we would rest our spirits, we must recline on the Great Spirit. Let things alone; let them weigh what they will; let them soar or fall. “ ~Henry David Thoreau, Letters to a Spiritual Seeker

||Justice||
We often pray that God is just and that we can see him overcome the injustices in the world that bring us sorrow, but I wonder how often we leave ourselves out of that prayer. I was reading psalm 7 this morning and blown away by the audacity and intentionally of the psalm.
“O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah” - Psalm 7:3-5
How often do we care so deeply about justice that we would pray that we too receive a full repayment or the wrongs we have committed against others. I truly hope that I myself will care so deeply about justice for everyone. And in the process learn more about the Lords heart for justice, the broken-hearted, and righteousness to the extent that our own selves are humbled to the place where his will takes priority.
“The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous- you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. “ - Psalm 7:8-11
Happy New Year everyone!!
I love you all!

|| New Job || Today is the first day on a new chapter of life, one that I think will be a substantial one for me. Like I said in my last post I left my job of about 3 1/2 years as a screen printer for a new opportunity. Today I had my orientation for my new job as an apprentice electrician.
Honestly, If you would have asked me a couple months ago The thought of being an electrician probably hadn’t even crossed my mind. But as I reflected more on what I learned about myself, my learning style, my preferred work environment, and my overall love for learning the moment the idea sparked my interest it stuck as an option. And as I talked with more and more people both in and out of the trades the more confident I felt that it would be a hood fit for me.
I begin tomorrow on a job site and it will be hands on learning from here on out, and I have to say I’m pretty stoked about it. But if I seem a little extra tired for these first few months don’t be alarmed, it’s just me getting used to the new lifestyle and flow of work.
If you are the praying type I would love if you throw up an word to the big guy and pray that I stay attentive, focused, adaptive, have plenty of energy, and that I learn quick.
And if you aren’t just thank you for your friendship or just for the fact that you exist. You are a rockstar.
Anyways I love you all, so here is a cheers to a new stage of life and a brand new adventure!

|| Wooden Heart || “We’re all born to broken people on their most honest day of living
And since that first breath we’ll need grace that we’ve never given
I've been haunted by standard red devils and white ghosts
And it's not only when these eyes are closed
These lies are ropes that I tie down in my stomach,
But they hold this ship together tossed like leaves in this weather
And my dreams are sails that I point towards my true north,
Stretched thin over my rib bones, and pray that it gets better
But it won’t, at least I don’t believe it will
So I've built a wooden heart inside this iron ship,
To sail these blood red seas and find your coast
Don’t let these waves wash away your hopes
This war-ship is sinking, and I still believe in anchors
Pulling fist fulls of rotten wood from my heart, I still believe in saviors
But I know that we are all made out of shipwrecks, every single board
Washed and bound like crooked teeth on these rocky shores
So come on and let’s wash each other with tears of joy and tears of grief
And fold our lives like crashing waves and run up on this beach
Come on and sew us together, tattered rags stained forever
We only have what we remember”

|| Plea || “O Divine Master, grant that I may not
so much seek to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
