Back in early September immigration court changed their policy to detain all immigrants rather than give them the opportunity for a bond hearing. One of our clients was detained indefinitely. The Roth Weinstein law firm just won a lawsuit in federal court mandating our client’s release!
Federal judge in northwest Iowa orders the release of an ICE detainee U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents took Armando Garcia Picazo into custody in August. Authorities wouldn't release him even though an immigration judge approved his bond. He sued to be released. This week, a federal judge ruled in his favor.
USCIS's decision to end automatic extension for employment authorization is another way to inflict cruelty upon the immigrant population. All most of our clients want to do is work hard and provide for their families. When their work authorization is coming to an end, they can apply to renew it, but USCIS often takes so long to renew that there is a gap in work authorization. The automatic extension helped alleviate that gap.
