Okeechobee County strongly condemns public comments made during today's Board of County Commissioners meeting that targeted member of our community based on race or ethnicity.

Our community is strengthened by the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences of the people who call Okeechobee County home. Every resident deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.

While the County respects the constitutional right of individuals to express their views during public meetings, speech that seeks to divide our community or disparage people because of their race, ethnicity, or national origin does not reflect the values of Okeechobee County or its commitment to serving all residents.

The Board of County Commissioners and County staff remain committed to fostering a community where everyone is welcome and where public service is provided impartially, professionally, and without discrimination.

We encourage all members of our community to engage in respectful dialogue, even when opinions differ, and to work together to ensure Okeechobee County remains a place where every person has the opportunity to live, work, and thrive.
