I regularly have clients tell me that they would like to update their facility, but they were told by contractors that they would have to close the business during all or part of the renovation process. Many businesses simply cannot afford such a disruption to their normal operations or the loss of revenue associated with being closed. Worse yet, medical facilities have patients whose need for care does not stop because their caregiver's office is closed for a renovation.
One of the inherent problems with traditional renovation methods is that some form of business closure is often required. This work is often very difficult to complete in stages, after hours, and still allow the business to remain functional during normal operating hours. This is why many contractors request that the business be closed, at least for some period, during the renovation.
In this case, millwork companies wanted to tear out all of the old cabinetry and replace it with newly fabricated components. The demolition could have been accomplished when the facility was closed at night, but where would the employees work once the millwork removal began? The displaced employees would have to be relocated to another area, but that would mean that the temporary stations they would be working from would not have all of the capability of their normal work areas. This would also mean that the displaced employees would be taking up space in another area, either reducing the space for patients or other employees.
Another consideration is the mess created by the demolition. Certainly, dust control measures can be utilized, but this process is time consuming to set up and take down each night. The time it takes to set up and take down curtain walls and air filtration equipment takes away from the amount of time the demolition crew can spend actually working each night. This not only adds to the duration of the project, but it also increases the cost of the renovation and the disruption of the normal business operation.
Finally, the demolition work in this facility would undoubtably cause damage to the floor and walls adjacent to the millwork being removed. Even in the rare case where no other damage occurred, the new millwork components would not likely match exactly to the old ones meaning some type of floor and wall repair would be required, again increasing the cost, duration, and disruption.
By resurfacing the existing components, the Eco-Surfacing team eliminated the mess and disruption, while saving the facility a considerable amount of money. We were happy to give them a fresh look that allowed them to remain fully functional. No floors or walls were damaged in the transformation. No employees were displaced, and the business incurred no loss of revenue.

Our customer wanted to repair and modernize the elevator surround and door on a floor of an office building that was being renovated. The polished brass did not match the new decor and the dent in the door was an eyesore. The elevator company was happy to provide a quote for a new door and surround, but this was well outside the budget our customer had in mind. By resurfacing the door, surround, and call button, the Eco-Surfacing team was able to give the customer the brushed stainless look they wanted without the disruption, wall repair, and high cost required to replace these components. When the project was complete, the tenants of the building were convinced that the resurfaced components were actually fabricated out of stainless steel.
Why waste money, cause disruption, and throw usable items in the landfill when you don't have to? Reduce, reuse, RESURFACE!
