Wondering where you should grow your indoor arrangement? This window side night stand is a perfect area to grow, as it has two windows facing south and east. It only receives 30 minutes of direct sunlight in the early morning, the rest of the day these arrangements feed off the bright heavy glow these windows provide. Remember, the angle the sunlight shines through your windows will shift with the seasons, so you may have to move your plants seasonally as the sun shifts. Windows facing south, east, or west are ideal growing spaces for sun loving plants like succulents. Be sure to slowly introduce your succulents to full sun, young plants can easily suffer from sunburn. Use curtains or blinds to filter direct sunlight until your plant grows strong and mature, when it can thrive in brighter conditions. Also consider using potted plants that can handle full sun to shade/filter your succulents indoors and in the garden, slowly moving your potted plants away from the succulents once a week.

This is an example of sunburn on succulent leaves. Small, young succulents need to be introduced slowly to full sun conditions, or they will surely be burned and may even die. You may introduce your succulents to full sun slowly by increasing sun exposure a little every other day (increase in 15 minute increments), or if your patient and don't want to risk any stress on your plants, increase sun exposure in 30 minute increments once a week. You may need to move your succulents to several different locations to prevent sunburn when increasing their light exposure. Early morning sun and late afternoon sun are ideal for succulent's sun needs. Succulents need 4-6 hours of sunlight to stay healthy. If your succulents have sunburned leaves, the scars will never go away. Move them to an area that receives filtered light or only receives morning/evening exposure. Continue your normal watering cycle, allowing the soil to dry between waterings, in extreme heat and drought, only allow top 1.5 inches of soil dry out before watering again. Slowly pluck 1 or 2 of the damaged leaves every other week to encourage new growth, or prune at the leaf nodes if the plant is tall enough. Never do more than a 70 percent leaf/prune reduction unless your plant is in mortal danger, too much leaf plucking or pruning can stress your plants, slow their growth and even kill them.
