Let's talk basics - brand identity! 🥰
A brand to a business is like stripes to a zebra. 🦓 Without its stripes, the animal could be mistaken for a miniature pony or even a donkey! Your business is the same way, and your identity defines and reinforces your reputation as a brand.
There are two main components of branding:
▫️Visual Identity
▫️Brand Strategy
While there may be some overlap with the two, the visual identity is what you see as recognizable graphic elements, colors and fonts versus the voice and values of a company. Each of these elements should support the other and help create continuity of the overall external perception of the business.
Here are the 5 basic foundational elements of a brand that every business should have:
✔️ Logo - I know, I know, seems simple enough, but you wouldn't believe how many businesses and nonprofits I have worked with that did not have a business logo! 😳
✔️Appearances - consistent color theme, typography & graphic elements 💛
✔️Voice/Personality - values and positioning: friendly, approachable educational 😎
✔️Purpose - mission, tagline and strategic objectives 📋
✔️Targeted Audience - consumer niche and competition differentiation 🔍
This was my favorite part of preparing for the launch of DVLP, and while I thought I knew quite a bit about branding through typography and color theme - I was excited to learn about color psychology and seasonal color theory! 💛🧡🤎
DVLP is categorized as a "fall brand season" according to wittandcompany.com. This truly made me happy when the brand identity I wanted to adhere to fell within the values and brand voice I envisioned for the company.
