This love was once illegal. In 1958, Mildred Loving and Richard Loving chose each other anyway.

They loved quietly. Persistently. Bravely.

In 1967, love didn’t just win — it changed the law.

♥️ 1958 • Mildred Loving, a Black & Native woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, married in Washington, D.C.

♥️ Arrested and criminalized for their marriage in Virginia

♥️ Forced to leave their home and community

♥️ 1967 • The Supreme Court rules Loving v. Virginia, legalizing in*******al marriage nationwide

Love didn’t just win — it changed the law. This Valentine’s Day, we honor love that refused to disappear. 🌹

Special Thanks to Congresswoman Barbara Lee

We extend our deepest gratitude to Congresswoman Barbara Lee for her unwavering dedication and service to our community. Her steadfast commitment to social justice, environmental sustainability, and economic equity has profoundly impacted the 12th District of California.

Notably, Congresswoman Lee has been instrumental in securing significant federal funding for local initiatives. She applauded the announcement of over $300 million for the Port of Oakland, aimed at transforming it to zero emissions, thereby strengthening the local workforce and providing sustainable transportation alternatives.

Additionally, her efforts led to a $4 million grant awarded to the Port of Oakland for zero-emissions initiatives, underscoring her commitment to environmental justice and reducing carbon emissions in our region.

As she transitions from her role in Congress, we are inspired by her legacy and look forward to her continued leadership, especially with her recent filing to run for mayor of Oakland.

Thank you, Congresswoman Lee, for your tireless advocacy and for being a beacon of hope and progress in our community. Your work continues to inspire us all.
