Learning how to cook can be incredibly difficult and expensive – although it does not have to be so. I have attended culinary school and worked in kitchens under phenomenal chefs, however people cook all around us if we're willing to look. The people who taught me the most (other than my mom) were my neighbors. I learned how to catch and prepare puffer fish from the fishermen, and I learned cuisin
es that my mom didn't cook from neighbors and people passing through Jamaica. The best way to learn about food and cooking isn't in the back of a restaurant kitchen - it's face to face, with the people cooking and eating in the same room. Twisted Roots is a volunteer group of ambitious chefs, travelers and foodies who share a love for new places. Places filled with potentially mouthwatering new food dishes, cultures to be admired, and natives who could use a helping hand and a little love. Our culinary talent and unmistakable charm doesn’t have many limits. With doing popup dinners our goal is to turn a profit that allows us to pay for the materials used, have enough money to travel to the next place, and to give back to the community in ways that will leave a positive impact. Because so many charities have middle men collecting their dues and we’re not okay with that, we would like to face these challenges head on and put some smiles on the faces of those we get to help. For us it’s about the chance to passionately follow what we believe in and proactively make a difference one place at a time. With Twisted Roots, location isn’t a limitation or a deciding factor, but rather an open field with an abundance of options. We thrive off the thrill of diving into new flavors and cooking styles and taking that inspiration and showcasing it in our next dish. Traveling to new areas and having access to all that is local and fresh, it helps us produce uniquely engineered dishes that possess both flavors and quality guaranteed to give an irreplaceable experience. Each time someone takes interest in what we do it allows us the privilege to wake up each day making an active effort to put our passions into practice by doing what we love. We love to cook, we love to travel, we love to meet people and hear stories. We are excited that we have the chance to directly impact people's lives in a positive way.
